If this book had been the first book, I would never have read the other three books in the Secret Fires series. I only gave it a three star because it did bring closure to the McBride saga. The first three books written by O'Banyon, Smith and Barbieri all had the same flow. Aside from some subtle differences in writing styles, the fact that each book was written by a different author wasn't that evident. Not so with Ms. Rogers in this last book of the series. I found her characterization of Stone to be pretty one dimensional and the whole book was flat. I doubt that I will read any other books by Ms. Rogers.Product details

This is the last book in the series (Secret Fires). Each book is wrote by a different author. You have to read the books in order.I read all 4 books in order, if you don't you might get confused about how things happen in the books. I liked all 4 books.
One of my favorite authors.
I really enjoyed this series of 4 books. However, this fourth book was drawn out with lots of sex parts and didn't even follow up on any of the other people or plots in the series. The first 3 books had just enough sex to keep things spicy yet kept the other main parts interesting and kept you wanting to read. If I hadn't already read the first 3 and wanted to know the ending , I never would have read all of this book as it could have been shortened down to a quarter of the size and finished the series nicely by cutting out a lot of just the sex.
Lots of suspense and action. This will keep you entertained for a good while. Lots of excitement and intrigue. Don,t want to give it away.
I bought this book and a few others as part of a series. the book is riveting from start to finish. This is the last book in the series and I'm afraid I didn't care for Stone in this story. His personality and how he never let anyone know what was going on kind of left me cold. The story itself is great, but I wish they would have picked a different author to write this character for the end of this story. The ending is a surprise and not like you'd expect it to be if you have read the other books first,(which I highly recommend), All in all I would recommend you read this ending anyway and see what you think of it.
I read all 4 books in the series, this being book number 4. I had a hard time dealing with Stone's personality at the beginning of the book, though I am glad I stuck with it, as he became a better person towards the end. I liked how the book ended with all of the characters from all the books, letting the reader know in a simplified way what happened 2 years after the patriarch's death. I was really "bugged" by the editing of this book. There were huge errors with misspelled words, and there were several sentences that didn't make any sense because of how they were worded. I can deal with a few spelling and punctuation mistakes, but this book had too many errors and I found that frustrating. My favorite book in the series is The Half Breed, about Chase and Faith.
I expected this book to be the most interesting in the series since it would expose all the secrets and tie up the loose ends, besides being Stone and Annie's story. It failed most miserably, in my opinion.
Neither Stone nor Annie were very interesting characters. The way they treated each other really felt off kilter. Actually the way everyone in the family acted was just strange. The revelations at the end were not surprising. Very anticlimactic and unsatisfactory.
It was not enjoyable to read about family members who were so hateful to each other and so ready to believe the worst about each other.
